I forgot to mention that Jeff Porter's daughter and her family just moved into our neighborhood. I gave the link of our website to his son-in-law to share with Jeff.

Joann  -  My SS payment comes in the 2nd Wednesday also  -  that way if they shut down the government we won't get ours  1st.  Just so everyone knows I am not retiring  -  Only reducing the Number of Hours I work  -  I most likely won't fully retire until Carol does and she is 5 Years and 2 Days younger than I am.  I want to travel a little more and have a little more freedom.  Talk to you later.  Go BRONCOS.

I don't worry about my Social Security electronic deposit date as much as their ability to automatically adjust it as they decide.  We all got the COLA raise along with the Medicare cost increase, which basically eliminated the COLA increase.  In some cases your Medicare cost increased beyond  the COLA making it a net loss for next year due to last years tax filing.  I think my best future option to keep up with inflation due to a tanking stock market in regards to retirement accounts would be to sell blood plasma products.  Locally, I can earn up to $300 per month for possibly only two draws a month.  This may support my habit of eating since like many of those our age it may be our only vice we can look forward to.  I need to explore the tax consequences to find out if the money received selling my blood will also impact future  Social Security benefits.  We might need to schedule special Mini get together on creative and somewhat legally acceptable retirement strategies.

I get two Tuesdays off from City Council because of Christmas and New Years.  Yahoo!

United Way offered me some consultant work up to 20 hrs a week starting in Jan.  Wish I'd win the lotto so I could coast,  but doubt if that's in the cards!

Hope each of you have a superb Christmas.

I'm with you, Dick K.  My greatest fear in retirement is inflation. I noticed the effects just recently.  We used to cut a pie into 6 pieces, now only 4.  Medicare now gets a bigger chunk of my pie...and the Huksters... and the

Kathi,   You're in Politics now.  Why would you need a job?   Seriously,  you should have been networking on the Forum.  Frank has a "job" he could probably sell to the highest bidder. He might sub-let some of those hours he's giving up.  Do you golf?

Been working on a new New Years Resolution.  My last one, "stop giving people crap on the Forum" didn't work out so well this year.

Maybe I'll stop trying to beat the 69ers Posts.  We're within 210 right now. Considering about 200 of ours got erased, and that I've posted on the 69ers Forum a dozen times, we've probably beat them already. Thanks for the help over here, Mole and Brownie.

Disregarding the above crap...

  Merry Christmas, Everyone !!

        Happy Birthday, Carol !!

Merry christmas to all and happy birthday to Carol also.

Well Schick Broncos lost and my Chargers were beaten soundly by Baltimore at home. The bad news is that it looks like they will be playing Baltimore again in the playoffs.

Dick  -  What The -  It can't be a New Years Resolution because its not New Years   -  YET.

Tiger  -  It will be hard but I will be rooting for the Chargers (even though Phillip Rivers is goinig to be playing).  The good thing is you still have a Dog In The Hunt.  The BRONCOS are working on a High Draft Pick  -  maybe they can get a QB.  Talk to you later.  Go BRONCOS.

Frank,  Not giving you crap was LAST YEARS's resolution.  As it is, I only have a week left to try to live up to it.  Now to find a new resolution (which won't be kept either).  Don't know why I put myself through this.  I should have known "not giving you crap on the Forum" was impossible to keep.  Some people are crying out to get crap.  I won't mention names .... #4 .

Dick-----I may have missed the answer to your question about Rick Gans and the snowball at Reddy's (post 8466).  Yes, he was a good pitcher.  Who was the unfortunate recipient?

And the stories we all have about Reddy's could easily get us past the 69ers in a day or two.

Tiger-----I also follow Phillip and the Chargers (sorry Frank!!).  But my real allegience goes to the Bears! Its been a long dry spell.

Danny-----Any birthday celebration stories that you want to share?   Keep it G-rated!

What a great storm some ice on the streets before the snow. Then 40 mph winds and 3 to 4 foot drifts doesn't get any better than that in Nebraska !

Danny,  Does this mean you're doing a Polar Plunge at the Duck Blind?  Wish you would have told the rest of us.

Here I sit, stuck with a freezer full of ribeyes, a hungry Wiener Dog who won't go outside to pee, and all my year-end bookkeeping to do.  A Polar Plunge would have been preferable.

200 difference from the 69ers!

Sounds like Cabin Fever is setting in on the board.  We need to focus more on the positive aspects and downplay the negativity.  The wind will blow snow from your property onto your neighbors and really, how much do you like them anyway?  Dick shouldn't worry about doing his bookkeeping for tax season due to the Federal Shutdown the staff at the IRS isn't working.  What is the worst that can happen if you Fudge on the numbers a little bit or forget to file.  You have an established defense of Diminished Capacity to understand the Tax Codes since everybody knows it makes no sense to be a farmer currently, thus you must be  crazy already.  Another positive aspect  of Federal incarceration is three meals a day, a bed of your own and Free medical and dental care and a chance to further your education.  In regards to the Polar Bear Plunge,  how many of the participants look like anything one would dream about have you seen on TV recently.  There may be a special segment  of our class that fantasizes of seeing Danny in a Speedo but Dave C. wanted  a more family rated posts so it's best to drop this segment at this time.  I'm sure that Mrs. C. limits Mr. C's exposure over the last four decades or so.

Dick K. who told you that I wear speedos now everyone knows ?

12/28/18 07:02 PM #8510

Dick Garrelts

Thanks a lot, Dick!  Getting me to visualize Danny in a Speedo means I'll have to get my eyes fixed again.

As for the IRS,  government shutdown or not,  they're always working. That Super Computer they call "The Beast" (mark of the beast) never sleeps. We're all being audited as we speak.  I figure being honest means they'll get a piece of my pie, but if I cheat, they'll take the whole pie.

Farming is my way of not having to sell blood. Many thanks to the Donald for the 1/2 cent corn subsidy that put me in the black. That's what they call "farming the mailbox".  Only trouble is, it's taxable.   Incarceration is beginning to sound better ...

We're all crazy, either for farming, getting married, having kids, living in this climate, or following the Forum.  They still allow Snowflakes to wander around amongst us, so incarceration probably isn't an option for just being ordinarily crazy.

That three squares a day, snack bar, movie theater, dental, vision, and education seems enticing until you consider you'll get more sex than you ever wanted ... So don't cheat on your taxes!

On a positive note, I found a sucker who will trade Chocolate Covered Cherries for Ribeyes.

I attended my first high school wrestling match yesterday. Our son's fiance's son is on the wrestling team for Lincoln Christian. Being this was my first meet, I didn't realize how close arms and shoulders come to snapping!  I found myself wanting to run onto the mat and pull the kid off of the kid on the bottom who's shoulder was distorted to the point where I was aching for him!  My sons didn't wrestle and after watching the guys wrestle I realize now how good of shape they have to be in.  Hat's off to Ron Smith for being on the wrestling team at KHS!

Christmas has come and gone and now the new year is a few days away.  Who would have ever dreamed we would be coming up on 2019 when we graduated???  Graduation seems like a long time ago!

Happy New Year to everyone!  I hope 2019 brings good health and prosperity to you all!

Joann...

You made me laugh.Actually, wrestling is a relatively safe sport. There are very few injuries with just bumps and bruises and soreness.Having refereed 47 years and working around 75,000 total matches I have only had what I would call one serious injury.Officials don't care who wins the match. Our top priority is that no one gets hurt except maybe their ego. There are rules in place to protect the competitors.A good official is in position to stop  or block a potentially dangerous hold from becoming illegal and getting someone hurt. Wrestlers are trained to start and STOP on the whistle. These kids are more flexible than you think. Also, there are on site appropriate health-care professionals to attend to situations that may occur.

The ones I feel for are the fans who have to sit on those hard bleacher seats for these 8-10 hour tournaments after traveling an hour or two just to get to the site.
