Frank,  Mt. Rushmore is worth the trip. It's amazing what erosion can do.  Good thing Carol didn't want to see The Old Man of The Mountain in New Hampshire.  His face fell off.

I didn't see you on TV at the ballgame. There was too much competition; US Open Badminton, Green Acres, and a rerun of the Moon Landing - obviously faked. None of those guys looked like Tom Hanks.

Danny,  If Mae West can't save you .....  but what a way to go!

Nothing says "Cruise Nite" like 110* in full sun and concrete. Enjoy.

If you think this heat is unbearable, consider the Troops dealing with this (or worse) - all day - every day - while getting shot at. Sleep well tonight.

Dick-Welcome to Az weather!  We’re going into a cooling trend...coming week to be below 110, yeah!  Monsoon humidity hasn’t kicked in yet so we’re okay:)  Never did get my question answered about KHS, but did find out by searching Kearney Hub that it fared OK.

Just watched a taped program tonight about the Moon launch in 69. Two things came to mind...first, what happened to journalists like Walter Kronkite...people who just reported the fringing news (although that might just be MY recollection) and two, why can’t I recall what the heck I was doing at the exact moment man set foot in the moon!  I’ve tried but keep coming up blank. Oh well.

Frank-Hope you enjoyed Mt Rushmore.  I haven’t seen it either.  I have been told that there was some coming construction...did you miss it?

Dick K.-Vickie was going through our old picture shoebox and came across a Hub photo from, I think the 9th grade, that I’ll send you via email...once I get your email. I think you’ll enjoy it!

I remember I was working at the Holiday Inn as a maid and went up to the lobby for something and the moon landing was on.  I can still remember standing there in awe of what I was seeing !!!!  There were several other people watching and remember also how quite everyone was !!!

My question is where the heck did those 50 years go to ????

Danny / Gary / Dick  -  Well everyone knows that flying Non-Rev on Carol's passes sometimes don't work out.  That being said  -  we could have made it up there but it would have been tricky to get back  -  you know I have to work.  SOOOOOO  -  We went to Durango, Colorado instead, went on the Durango to Silverton Train and took in all the sights.  Probably saw the Most Beautiful area in Colorado (I had been there a couple of times back in the mid 70's but Carol had never been there)  -  an area called Ouray (pronounced like  You-Ray).  Very quick trip and we still have Mount Rushmore on the radar but most likely in the fall.  I would recomend Ouray to all but some people may not like the Road  -  lots of Hair-Pin Curves and looking over the Mountain  -  Sraight Down  -  Unbelievable but Beautiful.  Better go  -  I need to sell something and earn my keep.  Talk to you later.

Another classmate is in need of our thoughts and prayers as he battles cancer.  Just received a text message about Dick Jensen.  I don't have many details at this time but the weight of 113 pounds should be an indicator of the seriousness of his medical situation.  Hopefully, more information will be coming.

Thanks for posting, Dick K.  Dick Jensen is not receiving visitors at this time.  Hopefully the Doctors can help him with further treatments. He is in my prayers also.

Cards may be sent to Dick Jensen

Hello from the great state of AZ. I decided to be an early snowbird.  I expected a dry heat, but what I’m experiencing does feel dry.  I’m trying to move my stuff from the car into the travel trailer I bought in Lake Havasu City. Bring in a box, empty it, rest, and repeat.  Almost done😎🌵!!

I haven’t posted in a while, but Dick Jensen’s name caught my eye. In 2005 when my dad turned 90, I took him to the senior center at Yanny Park, where Dick was working at the time. I think he did oversee all of food service  there. We had the chance to talk a little, and he brought out a birthday cake for my dad. I always knew he was way smarter than me, but I always called him Dickie anyway. He always acted like he didn't like it, but I think he really did. (:   I WILL send him a card and wish him well!

Ditto on congrats to Kathy L. Pretty exciting!

Dick and Dick, thanks for posting about Dick Jensen.  I have added him to our prayers page.  Just a reminder he is not up for visitors but would enjoy cards and prayers!

Frank, sorry you weren’t able to get to Rushmore but imagine it will be beautiful in the fall.  I haven’t been there for several years, 6-7 or so.  Love that area!  Certainly hope Dan and Deb are enjoying themselves at Sturgis!  Kathy, enjoy your move to AZ!  Can’t imagine being there in their heat.  For me hot is hot, humid or dry doesn’t make a difference!

Anna, John and I are going to the ‘69 reunion this weekend!  Hoping to have fun and see lots of the people we enjoyed back then as well as the regulars from their minis!  They’re at the Archway on Friday and the Coop on Saturday!

Dick K- we were happy Buzz’s main building was built higher than some in the area!  We did lose the Backlot because it is so much lower and had a drainage ditch to the north and south of it!  They filled up pretty fast and ran into that building!  Not sure what Mick is going to do, but it needs major work or replaced!  So many had it much worse than we did so we’re thankful we were spared!

Our prayers go out to Dick Jensen and his family.

Kathy - Welcome to the desert...you’re way too early to call yourself a snowbird though.  Better refer to yourself as a desert rat, like the rest of us, until October:)  Yesterday was our hottest day of the year here in Buckeye...116!  Don’t worry, you’ll get used to it.

I read in tonight's Hub that classmate Barry Robinson has died.I would occasionally see him riding around town on his bicycle and would always stop to talk to him.He always came across as somewhat of a bully in high school. He was really just a pussycat.

I sat beside him in Earl Jensen's deca class.Barry would chew on a bunch of matchsticks until he had a big gooey wad and when Mr.Jensen wasn't looking he would throw them against the chalkboard and they would stick. Nobody ever ratted Barry out.

I read that too Ron and have moved him to the In Memory page!  I had a couple of classes with Barry and thought he was a nice guy!  I think he wanted to be known as a tough guy but he was just like the rest of us dealing with life as a teenager!  I was sorry to read about his passing!  RIP Barry!

Barry and I worked together for about five years with the County.  He never was the "Tought Guy" in real life it was more of an act.  He enjoyed talking about some of his misadventures in High School but many of the themes centered around being the kid on the outside looking in but seldom fitting in.  Sounds like a more or less universal feeling of many students during their High School days.  Barry had one trademark that I will always associate to him----his love of Swisher Sweets.  His party location of choice was to party under the old Platte River bridge south of town.  It was not unusual for some attendee at the gathering to flip a rock up onto the Bridge when a vehicle crossing the bridge was detected.  This solved a mystery for me of what did I hit late one summer's night crossing the Platte River in Ohlman's car after an evening in Hastings.  Jerry O. was resting, so to speak, and getting ready for some encounter with a moving bed later on that evening and may never have known what happened.  Later in life Barry developed a medical condition that caused him to be unable to work for many decades but like Tiger implied he enjoyed talking to his old classmates if they would speak to him first.  Unfortunately many people chose to avoid Barry or look away  which probably caused him more pain.  I can remember my wife relating how Barry and one of his friends (Roger Swerengen ?) cooled out some upperclassman in HS that was giving her crap.  I think we can say Barry is now in a place where he gets to fit in.

So sad to hear of Barry passing !!!!!!  I met Barry in 7th grade and had classes with him all the way through school. He was the sweetest-kindess person you could ever meet !!!

The last few years I would run into him at the Salvation Army Thrift Store and we would chat. His older brother and mine were in the same class. If I saw Barry on his bike I would pull over and chat with him.

From the first time I met Barry he seemed like a lost soul and that never changed over the years.  Rest In Piece dear Barry I will miss you !!!!!

Had a great time at the ‘69 reunion last night.  Not as many people as I thought would be there.  There were several there who hadn’t been to a reunion for several years so was good to see them.  Headed to the Coop tonight and looking forward to visiting those who I didn’t get to talk to last night!  Looking forward to our 50th!
