Sue Wise Divan  HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY  IIIIIIIII

Sue Wise (Divan)

Thanks for the birthday wishes Ron and Dan!  Had a great day except being on the phone for 1.5 hours for computer program support!  John took me to my favorite burger joint, In and Out and then to DQ for a hot fudge sundae!  Yum!  Our 50 th Anniversary is Friday. We're headed to Red Lobster tonight for steak and lobster. John's birthday is the 16th so it's either steaks at home or out to eat again!  We celebrate the whole month of March!  I had lunch with Vickie Martin yesterday. We have a great time together.  We bring a cooler full of NE beef with us.  Hoping we can go once more before we head home!  Weather is finally in the 70's and the desert is green and the flowers are blooming.    Our youngest, Lindsay, had an emergency appendectomy Monday night in Kearney and is still in the hospital. Hoping to get out tomorrow!  It's been hard not being there for she and Josh. Fortunately, my youngest sister was able to go and be there and entertain and feed Josh on his 40th birthday!  Not much else going on with us. The forum has certainly slowed down without Dick to keep us going. Miss him!  Take care all.

Loveland is getting an In and Out Burger...is it really that good?  Some are really excited about it...

I'm headed to Arnold for a funeral this weekend.  Anxious to get into the Sandhills.  Get to be with my brother, sister and cousins, memorable moments will be made!

You'll have to try them Kathi!  I love the burgers but not wild about the fries!  If I could have their burgers and Freddy's fries, I would be really happy!  Sorry for your loss Kathi.  Enjoy reminiscing with your family.

Happy birthday Joann !!!

I still have my Spam Recipe book that you put together for me. The history of spam you included is a must read. Thanks for taking the time to separate the breakfast, lunch, supper and salad recipes for me. I had grown especially fond of the Black Pepper Spam. However,I can't find it in the stores anymore. So now I just get the Spam Classic or the Spam with real Hormel bacon.

Still remember at our 40th class reunion all these cans of spam sitting on the tables.I think Dick G. and Danny had something to do with that and maybe some others. There were 17 cans all together and I gave one to Julie Hunt and one to Linda Brown. I thought Linda was going to cry when she told me her husband wouldn't let her buy spam, that bastard. After giving those two cans away I still had enough to last me almost a week. Always remember that when you eat spam you are eating high on the hog because it is pork shoulder.

But my personal favorite way to eat spam is the old fashioned way. Heat up the spam in the skillet and heat up a can of dark red kidney beans (bushes only). Then you eat the spam and beans while dipping the spam into the kidney bean juice and finish them both at the same time. Now all you have is that dark red kidney bean juice left in the bowl and you tip that bowl up and slurp it down and you wipe your chin off with your sleeve and you have just had a meal fit for a king.

Ron, thank you. I'm so glad you like spam! You should probably buy stock in spam so you are making money when you purchase spam!

I think you need to take over the forum! With Dick gone we need a replacement to keep things going. No one can really replace Dick but we need someone to keep us on our toes!

Happy birthday Kathie !!!  Still the toughest girl I know.

You are right Joann. No one can replace Dick and the forum will never be the same without his voice.

Thank you, Ron.  Not as tough as I used to be but still can hold my own.  Happy Easter.  He has Risen.

Happy birthday to you happy birthday to you happy birthday dear Cindy happy birthday to you !!!

I lost my pitch pipe so I was a little off key,but it's the thought that counts.

I was often asked to sing solo in the church choir. Well actually I was asked to sing so low that no one could hear me.

You are my all time favorite next door neighbor CWC,even though you were a girl. Your Dad was 0 for 5 trying for a boy,but he sure did love his daughters.

Still remember that time your Dad was playing catch with me with a baseball and I asked him if he needed a glove. He said "hell you can't throw it hard enough that I need a glove".

I just had a flashback of that St. Bernard that you had which was the biggest dog I have ever seen. I think the name was Buffy. He or she had a dog house that was bigger than the bedroom  I shared with my twin brothers.

Joann, thanks for letting us know about Donald. I just looked it up on the Hub obits and his memorial is April 29th at 10:00 am at O'Brien Straatmann Redinger funeral home. I hadn't seen Donald since high school until our 50th reunion. So glad he was there. RIP Donald.

Looks like you were in the hospital for awhile Ron, although that was probably about normal for the 1950's.  I think I may have mine too but will have to look for it.  HV Smith was my physician until he retired!  Treasures from our past!

Definitely the "good old days"! Now the mommas  only stay 24 hours  and go home and the bill is probably $10,000! Fun keepsake to have!

For those of you that have great memories, did Kaufmann & Wernert have a tube system in the store that that they sent things to the different floors of the store?

05/10/23 05:58 AM #9937

Marcene Niedt (Joy)

I don't remember for sure but it seems like it. The hospital even had a similar system.

That's pretty sweet that she saved that Ron. I bet you still have that 1.00 bracelet too!

JoAnn and Marcie,  I do not remember whether K&W had a system.

But, I do remember that Brown McDonald had a system with small glass canisters with metal lids on cables that led from locations on the sales floor up to a mezzanine-like office.

I believe the salesperson put the customer's payment in the jar and sent the jar up to the office area.  Then, the office-person sent the customer's change back to the salesperson.

Has there been any recent public-info on Cindy and Jerry Foote?

06/01/23 11:58 AM #9941

Sue Wise (Divan)

I've talked to Cindy a couple of times the last few weeks.  Jerry's cancer is progressing. Their boys come quite often to help Cindy.  She is handling it the same way most of us would and both of them can use lots of prayers.  I just stopped and dropped off a prayer quilt for them and plan to visit this weekend some time.  Jerry is alert but shows signs of pain.  Keep them in your prayers.
