Dick Garrelts

Happy Birthday, Barbie !

Dick  -  Just so you know I don't have plans to get Quarnetined  -  but if that happens  -  it happens (and damn the Bad Luck if it does).  At least I won't be in Mexico like Blanton.  The other part of that is the Baseball Season Opening Day has been postponed to at least April 12th  -  and probably won't come off then.  If I do happen to be Quarentined in Maui  -  I may have a few extra tickets  -  but being the Sales Guy that I am  -  I'm sure I can sell them to somebody.

To All  -  I haven't mentioned this but I had a little setback on my Ski Trip  -  nothing real major except I will have to have a little surgery on my knee. I was on a nice run (1st one of the day) on our 2nd day of skiing and a guy on a Snowboard came out of the trees (he could have been a little out of control) and T-Boned me.  With the collison it not only broke my #2 Rib on my left side but it also twisted my right knee and severed my ACL, Tore my MCL in 2 places and tore my Meniscus a little bit.  So now the surgery will take place probably next month and I probably won't be able to drive for about 4 weeks after the surgery.  The Doctor says he can have me up and Skiing for next year.  The most difficult part of that whole injury is the Rib  -  You take it for granted that every time you move you just do it  -  and nearly every time you use your Chest Muscles.  I have had a Lower Cracked Rib before and I knew the pain but this one took the prize for  HURT.  I have most of my mobility back in my upper body and right now I am driving but that will come to a halt because it is my right leg. So much for my Crying.  I'll get over it.

Danny  -  I probably should have been on Your Corona Cruise.  Better get to work  -  I have to be able to pay for my Free Trip to Maui.  Talk to you later.

Happy belated birthday Barbie!

Schick - Sorry to hear about your ski accident. Good luck with the knee surgery!  You probably should contact one of the many attorneys in our class to see if that snowboarder is liable!

Garrelts #1 - Your noodling in the river explains why Maria's had a fish basket on her menu!

I think many classmates probably have many untold stories from the river or the local sandpits!  Those adventures could fill up the Message Forum for sure!

I Have some bad news for anyone who was planning a trip to Amsterdam . You may want to wait a few weeks. They just shut off the green lights in the RED light district ?

Don't worry Mr. C.,  I'm sure they had a coronavirus plan in place of take out personal service only.  We can rest assured the 'Brain Trust' in DC will solve all of our problems with both the virus and economy.  I'll be waiting for my check in the next couple of weeks to help stimulate the economy, or should I just invest in toilet paper futures.  In many parts of the World they seldom used toilet paper.  Proper personal hygiene consists of a bowl of water for your fingers on the left hand.  Maybe this also explains why left handed individuals are discriminated against when they use the 'wrong hand' to handle everyday items.   #1,  I found it easier to fish with dynamite and a cane pole, somewhat similar to Forrest Gump's box of chocolates, you never knew what you would get.

If the left digit method doesn't appeal to you, consider there are two sides to each square. Or you could cut up that Hukster-wear into small pieces.  Seems appropriate. You won't be wearing it to the Spring Game anyway. I'm not sure if it was canceled because of the virus or if the players wouldn't make parole in time.

FYI. Dick K. is officially an old guy. Congratulations Grandpa!

Dave,  I never ate at Maria's. Those gallon jars of tripe and pig's feet sitting on the bar kind of ruined my appetite. And that filthy monkey didn't help either.

I'd better go wash up....

Dave  -  1st of all I was so stunned that I didn't get a name  &  the guy that hit me was probably 20 years old and a College Student  -  and as we know that while you're in College you most likely don't have a "Pot to piss in or a Window to throw it out of"  -  just to coin a phrase  -  even at age 68 I still don't have the Pot or the Window.  The River  &  The Pits  -  brings back quite a few memories  -  like you said it could probably fill a page or 2 on the Forrum.

Danny  -  So if there are Green Lights instead of Red Lights  -  shouldn't that mean that you just keep on going, and going, and going ?? Like the Eveready Battery Bunny when you put the batteries in backwards  -  he just keeps coming, and coming, and coming ....  You catch my drift.

Dick  -  We found out yesterday that the Governor of Hawaii has closed travel into that Great State until the CoronaVirus has slowed down  -  I am trying to help with it and went to Sam's yesterday and purchased 20 cases of Corona  -  they looked at me like I was crazy because we have a new deal that we can't congregate as a party of more than 10 people  -  I told them that I have a lot of friends that are Alcoholics and this was just a start.  Well -  I guess I had better get back to doing nothing  -  all my customers have policies in place that prohibit Professional Sales Calls.  Damn The Bad Luck.  Talk to you later.

Frank,  When they tell you to "Drink Responsibly" that means "Don't spill it!"   Good to know you aren't hoarding, just wondering how long 20 cases will last.

That whole green light/red light conversation reminds me of the education I got at KHS.  Back then social distancing was referred to as the "10 foot pole" rule.  It came in handy in Amsterdam when I finally got to apply that rule to somebody else ... to one in particular, "not even with your 10 foot pole!"

Happy Birthday, Glen.

Spring sprung on March 19, 2 days earlier than normal.  Must be part of the Global Warming conspiracy. But since everybody is stuck indoors, it will be a good time consuming activity to stand a broom, an egg on end, or try to stack 3 golf balls.

The situation isn't totally bleak for some people. They tell us to expect a Baby Boom.

On the other hand, they also predict a higher Divorce Rate.  So far, so good, but a question came to mind when Mimi asked me to sharpen the knives.  So far, so good, but I don't know how long I can stall.

#1, don't worry about knives at this time but focus on the mail.  I would be concerned  if any Accidental Death or Dismemberment policies have been taken out recently on you.  You could try a new survival strategy at home of complimenting Mimi more often, it could buy you some more time.  Finally, there is the old tried and true standard of "Yes Dear" when it comes to matters of correctness, decision making or anything else under the sun.

Dick take Wedster's advice  to act evasively and delay or just run for your ass !!!

Dick K  -  Very well put  -  I still haven't quite learned the FULL LESSON (much to Carol's chagrin)  (and Oh By The Way  -  I looked it up on Google so I was spelling it correct)  -   I am also very aware that she has 50% of one thing and 100% of another thing  -  so that being said  "I Am A Very Slow Learner"  -  after almost 42 Years under the same roof I still get myself into trouble with her.

Glen  -  Nice to see your Post -  are you going to be at the Renunion  ??   -  talking about Drive Thrus  -  as most of you know (or at least those of you that don't disregard my posts  -  We have a Mexican Restaurant close to us that has $2.00 Monday Margaritas (either Frozen or On The Rocks) that is usually one of our Most Frequented Establishments (That probably surprises some of you  -  but  -  yes it is true).  I had to lay the groundwork  -  Well  -  now because of the LockDown they are able to sell those Margaritas along with food orders for Take Out  -  What a deal.  The really good part of that is you don't have a limit on the Margaritas in relationship to the Food  -  you know where I'm going with this  -  Don't You??  It is a BEAUTIFUL THING  -  even though they cost $5.00 instead of $2.00.  I just ordered Lunch there and surprise  -  we also got 4 Margaritas  -  This Is A Wonderful Life

Dick  -  Take Dick and Danny's advice.  Just so you know  -  ACL Surgery is not considered an Essential Surgery  -  that being said I may be showing up in August on Crutches  -  and still may not be playing Golf but I can be around to harass those that are.  I asked the Doctor if I could get my 12 Handicap back  -  he said most likely and I told him it had gone up to 20  -  he said he may not be able to fix that because he is a Doctor not a Golf Coach (or a magician). Better go to WORK  (that 4 Letter Word).  Talk to you later.

Condolences to Sheri on the passing of her father-in-law Dale Eatherton. I remember my dad and uncle used to buy all their diesel fuel from him in the 60's when they were land leveling and Dale owned the Mystery Oil.

The barncats and I are doing ok on the farm.  It is getting boring but I spend time walking in the basement or outside when it is nice, reading books, crocheting and watching TV as I stay home.  I did break out this morning to get groceries again. This should last for a couple of weeks unless I need milk or catfood.   Everyone take care.

The normal routine in our individual households may have been altered but at our age we must have learned some survival skills over the years.  I learned about social distancing from an old bachelor farmer.  He didn't intend to be ahead of the his time,  it was just his lack of personal hygiene.  Reiter should be able to figure out who I'm talking about since he was only a few miles away from the family farm.   I have noticed a lot of people walking or bicycling but maintaining a social distance in my neighborhood.  We tend to put more focus on the negatives of how we have been impacted instead of seeing the positives of families having to slow down and appreciate each other.  I assume most of us grew up hearing from our grandparents talking about the "Good Old Days" when life wasn't so rushed.  Maybe, we have the opportunity to hit our own personal reset button to actually see what is really important---family and friends rather than just activities and things.

Very well stated, Dick! It is indeed an unimaginable crisis and definitely makes one appreciate the little things that we normally take for granted!
Hoping and you and your family are doing well!  Prayers for Megan and family in Hong Kong!

Hello, Sure glad I made it to NE to see family and friends in Feb, who knew!  I wish the news would report facts and not use words that create more fear, etc..

My calendar has not been this empty since junior high 😎  All my fun blues events are cancelling.  I'm not doing my blues cruise in Oct after watching people stuck on ships now.  Lost its appeal somehow.  But my small inconveniences are nothing in comparison to some!

Be well !

I feel like this having to stay at home is a payback for all the times my parents didn't know some of the things I was doing and couldn't ground me !!!!!!  Pay backs are hell !!!!

When you go out of the house for errands are any of you wearing a mask or gloves ??  I'm going to start ( being in that over 65 age group is kinda scary)

Take care and enjoy this together time !!!   I'm thankful I have my dog to keep me company !!!!!!!

I was out running a few errands and I did notice a few individuals wearing some PPE.  Personally the only precaution I took was wearing disposable vinyl gloves in case they didn't have the disinfectant wipes for the carts.  I was pondering the appropriateness  of going to the bank wearing a mask and gloves to cash a check .  The outcome might not have been beneficial to me.  Never mind, I think many of the banks are requesting scheduled appointments to get into the main bank, but this naturally morphed into another twisted thought.  Does someone planning to rob a bank have to schedule an appointment and if so why bother with a mask if the appointment request requires a current account with said institution.  I think a sure cure to "Cabin Fever" is to post on the Forum since we have a lot to down time and it stimulates our brains to some extent.
