Looks like you were in the hospital for awhile Ron, although that was probably about normal for the 1950's.  I think I may have mine too but will have to look for it.  HV Smith was my physician until he retired!  Treasures from our past!

Definitely the "good old days"! Now the mommas  only stay 24 hours  and go home and the bill is probably $10,000! Fun keepsake to have!

For those of you that have great memories, did Kaufmann & Wernert have a tube system in the store that that they sent things to the different floors of the store?

Marcene Niedt (Joy)

I don't remember for sure but it seems like it. The hospital even had a similar system.

That's pretty sweet that she saved that Ron. I bet you still have that 1.00 bracelet too!

JoAnn and Marcie,  I do not remember whether K&W had a system.

But, I do remember that Brown McDonald had a system with small glass canisters with metal lids on cables that led from locations on the sales floor up to a mezzanine-like office.

I believe the salesperson put the customer's payment in the jar and sent the jar up to the office area.  Then, the office-person sent the customer's change back to the salesperson.

Has there been any recent public-info on Cindy and Jerry Foote?

I've talked to Cindy a couple of times the last few weeks.  Jerry's cancer is progressing. Their boys come quite often to help Cindy.  She is handling it the same way most of us would and both of them can use lots of prayers.  I just stopped and dropped off a prayer quilt for them and plan to visit this weekend some time.  Jerry is alert but shows signs of pain.  Keep them in your prayers.

Thanks for posting that clipping from The Hub. I missed that  when I read the paper.

Don Ostendorf recently died.He managed the Kiwanis little league baseball team when we played back then. Dave Carpenter,Gary Martin,Bob Manning,Dennis Dady(Kenwood kid) and Rick Gans(Kenwood kid) our classmates played on that team.

Dave and Gary I know you are wondering who won those games against my team the Lions. Well the great Bob Van Tine gave us the answers.

Sue-thanks for the hub clip on Cindy and Jerry...will gladly send a card for the occasion!  50 years is a BIG deal and something to be proud of. Vickie and I will celebrate ours next June😊  Im sure there are others, you and John should be close if not already past. I know Jerry and Karen Hall are within weeks of ours...Rick and Pat Christensen, Danny and Deb Cavenee, among others. Someone in charge should know these things:)

Ron-I do remember the little league days. I see it was a push between our teams that year. I'd like to take a little credit for the 2 Kiwanis victories, but all I did was walk or went down swinging. I'm sure Dave C had something to do with scoring some runs. Thanks for all of your memories though, they're special now!

Texted Frank tonight...we will be in his neck of the woods week after next for a few days. Looking forward to getting together for a day and maybe getting a game of golf in.

I have to admit, it's been a while since I've posted and had to reset my password.  I hope that  won't happen again!!  We all miss Dick keeping us on our toes but should definitely try to keep the site active.

It just occurred to me that the total solar eclipse will occur on April 8, 2024 in Texas in the Fort Worth area. Just sayin that a mini reunion might be in order Frank😊😊 The last one in Nebraska was one of coolest 3 minutes I've ever experienced.  Wasn't ready for what happened then...will know what to expect this time.

It's kinda rare when couples can celebrate anniversaries, especially those milestones! Congratulations!🎈🎉. We celebrated two years last month.

Gary-we celebrated 50 years on March 10th and celebrated at Red Lobster in Surprise with wine, steak and lobster.  Steak was definitely not NE beef so next year we're just ordering wine and lobster!  You would think someone who is an administrator of this website would know when everyone has an anniversary and how many years they're celebrating!  I'm thinking Cindy Walters Castillo should be in charge of this information but she has even less time than I do for such things!  Oh well!  Everyone needs to post here when they're having an anniversary!

on another note, Cindy WC just text me that Jerry Foote fell yesterday and is back in the hospital so extra prayers are needed for the Footes.

I think Suzie Fredricks Wiester has been married the longest in our class. She got married I believe in December 1969.

Wow kind of a sad day. Many of you from Kearney remember this car that my dad’s business owned and raced in late ,60s & 70’s. They traveled with it and won National Championships. Loren Downing was the driver and my brother Mike and classmates and other friends and family were the pit crew. Dad sold the car many years ago but it has since been at the Classic Car Museum in Kearney. Well, it’s been on auction and the final bid was taken at 10:00 this morning. Hoping whoever bought it keeps it at the museum. Monica Ryan Munter and the boys have been over there and gotten their photos taken sitting in the car but Laura Elizabeth and E haven’t made it over. I’d really like to have them be able to see and get photo too. Such great memories❣️

I remember Pete's Patriot well. We always enjoyed going to the museum and seeing it. Lots of memories for many people. Glad it's staying in town.  I need to read the Hub article on it.  I was sorry to see so many of the old cars we'e being auctioned off.  Thanks for sharing Deb.

If I'm not mistaken, I believe the museum at Kearney is closing. That's why they were auctioning the cars off.

Deb Peterson (Ryan)

I could be wrong JoAnn but I think maybe downsizing?  When I talked to a couple board members they indicated they wanted the car to stay at the museum. I guess time will tell. Hub article says it's staying in Kearney.

Joann Stengel (Tumbleson)

Deb, I could be wrong too. I heard from several people living at Kearney that they were closing the museum.

There are a couple of car museums in Lincoln. One isn't open to the public but we were able to tour one day. The other is Speedway. Of the two, I'm partial to Speedway's museum as it not only contains cars but also things we grew up with.

Deb:  I sent you a private message from this site a couple of days ago...Did you see it?

Vicki Bissell

I saw Jackie Purdy at the Kearney 150 Birthday Celebrations today and she said to tell everyone that the Classic Car Collection is not closing. The cars that sold had been part of  the original collection when the current owner bought the museum but there are still a lot of cars there so come  see them.  Jackie spends a lot of hours volunteering there.
