Dick Garrelts

Another change since this morning;  37,31,40    Maybe I'll just wait until AFTER the RowdyFest for the meteorological prognostication.

Bring your skis, Frank.  Might as well take advantage of the 6" of snow we're expecting tomorrow night and Tuesday.

Don't kid yourself, Joann.   Cops have a 6th sense.

To fill the day on Saturday, how about Breakfast at Perkins?

Morning  (or afternoon)  Coffee at _________ ?

Lunch at _______________ ?

A beer at Maria's ?

Wide open to suggestions here ....

At some point we need to try the new Cunningham's at the Pits.   Friday?

Good morning all.
Was anyone able to see the moon eclipse last night? Beautiful moon but the clouds blocked our view of the eclipse!🌙
We'll be in Kearney mid afternoon on Saturday. I'll check in to see what's going on when we arrive.
See you Saturday!

Dave Carpenter

Joann--I didn't see the eclipse either, too overcast and cloudy.  Sounds like you better keep an eye on those Jello shots (even after you get to Kearney) as they will be in high demand by certain people.

Dick K.--An application of Marian Marrow's physic's class might be in order to solve Dick G's airplane problem. Regardless, there would be a lot of consumption at that rate!  And what's up with Miss Ogle's Christmas cookies?  I don't recall those or I must have been gone from school that day. Or it confirms that you were the special student of the day!

Dick G.--Keep those favorable temperartures going for next weekend.  Your cattle must be "contributing" to the Global Warming. Probably that high quality hay you're feeding!

Tiger--Make sure you leave room for Spam after the KHS BB game Saturday night.

Danny--Is the shuttle from CAE to the game on a "magic bus".  We all did grow up in the 60's you know. I'd better drive separately!

Put away the slide rule, Dave.  The Schick problem can't be solved with calculus.  Ask his wife.

I can't believe nobody remembers the cookies.  Long story short; Miss Helen meant well, but Freese made me laugh, which got me in trouble.

Another place to go is the McCues bar.  Anybody been there?

In Omaha I went to the deck for a verrrrry, verrrry short view of the eclipse.  Very pretty but not pretty enough to stay out too long.

Joann Stengel (Tumbleson)

Kathy, I agree-it was too cold to stay outdoors long to watch the eclipse.
Dave - I can't remember if you've been to a mini yet, but we HAVE to have jello shots. Watch out for Schicks. Super strong and he will keep pushing them until they're gone! 🍺

Dave C. actually you will be riding in Magic Bus # 3 . Magic Bus # 1 was mothballed a few years ago and Magic Bus # 2 is being updated. When you are in Magic Bus # 3 you can close your eyes and it will take you away on a Magic Carpet Ride !

01/21/19 06:24 PM #8596

Dave Carpenter

Danny--If you play some John Kay and Steppenwolf hits like "Magic Carpet Ride" and "Born To Be Wild" on the bus stereo we will all be having flashbacks Saturday night!  Anybody remember if Steppenwolf made an appearance at KSC for a concert while we were in high school? Seems like they did.

Can we assume part of Dan's updating of the newest Magic Bus  includes the sound system.  The progression from Four Track to Eight Track in the sixties through seventies or did he really step up from cassette to CD's.  The interior may be his biggest challenge since quality shag carpeting is getting harder to find in orange or lime green.  The real question is how  did it get it's name originally and will Mr. and Mrs. C agree on this subject.

Dick  -  I'll be in Friday Evening  -  Is there something happening that day??  If not I will stay in Grand Island and visit my Sis.  I can probably do Breakfast (Brunch) on Saturday morning.  Are there any Shirts left  -  Apparently mine disappeared  -  if there are any I can take a XL.  See you all in a few days.  Talk to you later.

Glad you're coming, Frank.   Actually I'm surprised after all the crap you've been subjected to on the Forum.  A balmy  39,39,39  must be acceptable (but I can't guarantee it)

Bob Elliott arrives Friday evening and will be joining us.

We'll discuss options soon and make an announcement.

Happy Birthday, Kathy !!

Help me prove I'm not crazy.  Did you get a cookie from Miss Ogle?

Dave,   My cows are forage grown so very low carbon footprint, and they don't compete with grass-eating humans to any extent.  Doreen and Dorene are very polite in mixed company, so cow flatulence isn't a climate issue on my place.   I'd welcome a little Global Warming about now.

There are roughly 10 million Dairy cows and 30 million Beef cows in the US.  It is estimated there were once 60 million Buffalo.  Who do you think did the most damage ?

In the News;  Man missing after driving his motorcycle on frozen lake. Obviously a  'not frozen enough'  lake.

We used to drive our cars on ice, but made sure it was 6-8" thick.  A few beers and a moonlit night with no headlights ...

Trivia question; Who drove a car into 'not frozen enough' Kearney Lake?

Dave, Steppenwolf did indeed perform at Cushing Coliseum.  Marti M. and I were there.  They played from a raised stage at the south end of the basketball court to a very small audience.  Chairs were arranged on the court facing them and the bleachers were pulled down in anticipation of a much larger crowd.  Taking advantage of the situation, we (and others) simply removed the chairs and turned the court into a dance floor as they blasted 'Born to Be Wild'...a song which many of us during those heady and turbulent days, identified.

Friday night - Cunningham's on the Lake  7:00 to whenever.

Saturday Brunch at Tex's Cafe, 10:00.

39,41,46    Global Warming?  Or the Doreene's started Rowdy Nite early, or maybe it was the extra hay I fed before the blizzard ....

Dave / Jerry / Bob  -  I guess I really didn't know that Steppenwolf played in Kearney  -  too bad for me.  In the 3 years I lived there the only concert I saw that I remember at Kearney State was The Cowsills  -  that one I did go to  -  can't remember with who.  We did see a lot of the Smoke Ring and a group called the Chancelors (I think) and the band that Mike Loveless played in  -  of course all the bands that played in towns like Revenna and Minden.

Dick  -  the Guy I think of that may have run his car into a soft spot on a lake is Reiter  -  don't know why.

Bob  -  Did ya'll pick that up from living in Southern Colorado??   See you Friday.

Joann  -  How Many Jello-Shots are you bringing??  If you are bringing   "70"  then I will not make any (By the Way  -    mine are not that strong  -  I'm getting a bad reputation).  Better go to   -    ????   -  Talk to you later.

Schick, I made 24 jello shots. You may want to make some. I thought your shots were strong. Maybe I've become a light weight.
I'm bringing spam for Ron for a retirement gift. I created a basket if someone else wants to bring something for retirement enhancement for Ron.
Also, in reference to Smoke Ring, they play every year at the Nebraska Vietnam veterans reunion.

I was wondering if anyone can remember any other music concerts in Kearney back when we were in high school?  Frank, I had forgotten about the Cowsills concert at KSC. Weren't they a group of brothers and that was their last name?  I do remember going to Zager and Evans (a couple of Nebraska boys) concert in Holdrege.  They were the one-hit wonders with the song "In The Year 2525".  That was the song that warned of the dangers of technology and protrayed the future with the human race being destroyed by its own innovations. It made it to number 1 on the charts in 1969. Steppenwolf may have been the top concert.

Good memories on the KSC concerts. I too remember the Cowsills, and I think it was four brothers and sister Susan.  I shouldn’t admit this, but I still have that ticket stub! Two of the brothers, and sister Susan still play with the Happy Together Tour (led by guess who....The Turtles). We saw this tour two years ago at the casino down in Mayetta Kansas, where I thought I saw Mary Walker from across the room. I believe she does live in Kansas. I messaged her the next day, but didn’t hear back. When and if she logs in, maybe I’ll find out if it was really her. Anyway, I digressed. More concerts I saw there.....Barry Manilow, Classics Four, and Fifth Dimension. It was Sly and the Family Stone who kept us waiting for at least an hour, then came on stage only to say one of them was sick, and ended the show. Anyone else remember that? I’ll keep thinking.
