Kathie Dobberstein (Jordan)

Happy Belated Birthday to Ron. It was great seeing you in Kearney.

I got a text from Terry Garrelts (#2) with some sad news.  Dan Blanton's son, Ian, passed away on Sunday. All I know is that they found Ian in his apartment. Please keep Dan and his family in your prayers. If I learn any more details I post another message.

I talked with Seerly's mom, Barb the other day.  She is doing very well after her pelvis fracture and was in great spirits.

I remember Mr. Hurt well  . . . he was one of my favorite teachers at KHS.  Sounds like God blessed him with 93 years!   I hope I'm remembering this correctly but does anyone remember the adding machine room adjacent to his classroom.  There was one machine in there that if you divided 0 by 0 the adding machine would keep running until it ran out of tape. I don't know who did this but I think it happened several times. Mr Hurt was not amused.

Happy Belated Birthday, Ron.

Happy birthday to you Vicki !!! You must be at least 40 by now.

Thanks for the info about Dan's son. So very sorry to hear that. Prayers for Dan and his family.

Jerry,is your conscience bothering you and you want to confess that it was you that divided 0 by 0 to keep the machine running?

I assume that adding machine was part of Riley's domain  (Business math class).  Mr. Ohlman it's better to confess on the Forum so you can sleep better tonight.  I have a trivia question related our former teacher  (JH)  What was his nickname to many of us our Senior year?  I'll give a little hint,  it is related to his apparent choice of food at lunch.  Let me add my prayers to the Blanton family on their loss, it is a parents worst nightmare to lose a child at any age.  Maybe by this weekend the Presidential Election will be settled or is the Sequel in the works.

Dick ..

The only answer I can come up with is Mr. McClure (Big Mac).

I have no idea what nickname we gave Hurt.

Here is Dan Blanton's address.  I know he would appreciate sympathy cards from his classmates.

Maybe those who had Jack's class in the afternoon would have an advantage especially when he would lean over you to help explain something.  Tuna Fish was the moniker if my memory is correct, but again at our age the only constant we can attest to is gravity.  Most of the guys may have noticed their chest is a lot closer to their belt line and may measure a lot more than than in High School, dam that gravity.

Yes Dick I remember Mr. Tuna😂

Cindy / Dick / Jerry  -  Jack Hurt was one of my favorite teachers - I don't know if you guys remember but he gave me the opportunity to go to Minneapolis, MN for the National Leadership Conference and I represented KHS for our DECA (Distributive Education Clubs of America) Chapter.  I caught a bus in Grand Island that was already half full of kids like me (it had started in Scottsbluff or Ogalala and worked east) and we continued to pick up kids in Lincoln and Omaha.  The conference lasted for 3 days  -  we stayed at a High Rise Hotel in downtown Minneapolis (the 1st time I had ever stayed at a place like that)  -  The Twins were in town and the opposing team was staying at the same hotel  -  I was on an elevator with a few of them and couldn't believe how big they were  -  they should have been Football Players.  It truly was a trip I'll never foget. Maybe that is why I ended up in the Business World.  As you can tell  -  "I am the King of making a Short Story Long"  Talk to you later.

Thank you to all of the Veterans in our group.  Your service is greatly appreciated.

I went over to the Veterans gathering and they played the song for each branch of the service.  I'm weeping like I do at the parade every year.   I guess that is my way of showing appreciation.

Kathi - We always celebrate the Marine Corps birthday on the 10th.  A local dining establishment gives us a small semi-private area for our group. The attendees this year were overall much younger...I assume because of COVID-19. After the socializing is done we take a group picture and then things kind of break up. This year after the picture the "KIDS" started singing the Marine Corps Hymn. About half way through the song, cheers and applause could be heard coming from the rest of the establishment!!!  I kind of got choked up myself:)

Happy birthday Leanna!!  We have neighbors who moved here from Washington last year and her daughter lives in Papillion.  She visited last week and we consoled each other about the demise of the Huskers☹️

Thanks for the birthday wishes!  I must be getting old....I’ve tried to post two times now and they’ve disappeared. Maybe third time is a charm. Regarding my birthday, I always know when it is nearing because I start to see ads on tv for the clapper and the chia pet. Actually the clapper is sounding better every year.

Gary- Small world about Papilllion. I think we were voted one of the top ten small towns to live in. We like going to the Christmas tree lighting in the court house area. They have soup suppers in the fire hall and the bar downtown, carriage rides for the kids etc. This small town Kearney girl likes this. Although we don’t know what it will look like this year...

And oh yes, about the Huskers. Nice to have someone to commiserate with. At least I don’t still work across the river in Iowa, where they decorated my classroom in black and gold when the Hawkeyes beat the Huskers. Once.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING

To All  -  Thanksgiving has come and gone  -  The Elections have come and gone (Sort Of)  -  and here we are 20 Days before Christmas  -  Where has the year gone -  I hope we all have survived the Covid Pandemic.  As I have said all along "It's A Strange Strange World We Live In Master Jack"  -  They should write a song with those lyrics  -  it could possibly be a hit.

As everyone knows My BRONCOS  have not faired all that well this year but they still have a slim chance to make the playoffs  -  Sort of like the COWBOYS  have 3 wins and actually still have a shot at the playoffs ("It's A Strange Strange World We Live In Master Jack"  -  do you hear an echo).

I look at this Forum everyday and it's been quite slow on posts  -  I think everyone is just trying to sustain until all the Havoc subsides  -  and it will.  Carol calls this Forum my Facebook because I don't do any other Social Media  -  I don't call this Social Media   -  it's the Forum  -  thank GOD i don't do twitter.  Better go to work  -  talk to you later  -  GO  BRONCOS.

The forum has been slow.  I admit I don't check it often these days.  I have been finishing quilts for Christmas gifts.  I've actually completed somewhere between 15-20 quilts this year thanks to the pandemic.  For me, it's been okay to stay at home.  Not sure how much longer I can do this and not go crazy.  At least I can go to the grocery store and the quilt shop.  It's hard to get into the Christmas mood too.  The tree is up but not decorated, most gifts are purchased but not wrapped, no cookies have been made as we have no room in the freezer.  Our freezer died in May shortly after we filled it with a quarter of beef and half a hog.  We were lucky because John was checking for steaks and noticed my warning jar had water on top and the quarter was under the water.  Fortunately we did not lose any of the meat.  Unfortunately, there were no freezers available thanks to Covid.  There are a few now but we've decided to wait until there are more available.

If you are planning to attend the reunion in August, please register again using the 50+1 tab on the left.  I've deactivated the old registration page.  I do have a print out of those registrations and payments so I can mark you paid if we kept your money from the first registration.  Hopefully Dan and I can keep it all straight.  We still have lost classmates so I will post names when I receive returned postcards.  Also, please check the missing classmates list and send me an update if you have one.  Right now, I need addresses for Bruce Clark and Chuck Salestrom.  Both have been hard to locate through the internet.  Bruce and Chuck were in North Platte.  Chuck moved to Florida.  I have no idea where Bruce is now.  Please send me their addresses if you find them.

Frank, I didn't watch the game tonight but I really like KC with Denver a close runner-up so either one could have won and I would be happy.  I'm sure John will let me know who won after he watches the end of the game in the morning.  I'm off to bed.  Have to get up and head to Burwell for a cabin check in the morning!  Try to do it  for my Mom a couple of times after its been winterized.  Night all!

I emailed Chuck this morning and am hoping for a response.  I also have a phone number and will try it this afternoon!  I have nothing for Bruce so any help is appreciated.
